Please join us for a fabulous wine dinner hosted by our old chum and die-hard bon-viveur Andrew Gunn. He is widely recognised as South Africas most innovative wine maker and the awards showered on his wines bear testament to this.
I have just returned from a fascinating (and quite boozy) visit to his vineyards at Elgin , just south east of Cape Town. Some years ago Andrew set out to find the perfect location for viticulture, taking into account, climate, soil, elevation and God knows what else. He settled on a plateau looking over the two oceans that has become the iconic Iona Estate.
We will be treated to some of Iona finest wines accompanied by a 4-course menu from our wood oven and some instructive/witty chat, courtesy of Mr Gunn ; all this for a recession-busting £60 per head so we urge PLEASE BOOK EARLY for this cracking start to Summer

As soon as the vagaries of the English Spring permit we will be holding our “world-renowned” barbecues on the weekends. In addition to the usual delectations and delights , this year we are running an outside bar adjacent to the barbecue and offering a wide range of exciting starters and puddings, many of which come off the grills-think grilled pineapple chunks with mascapone ice cream and hot chocolate sauce !

On Monday June 4th 2012 our Queen will have reigned for sixty glorious years, and if that’s not a reason to throw “The Mother of all Parties”, then I don’t know what is !! The parishioners of Fletching are holding a street party with fireworks, live bands, hog roasts, and many firkins of Sussex’s finest ales. Dress code: Fifties finest !

To be sure of the best seats in the house ( garden hopefully) reserve a table now.

Tuesday 21st February – The first of our gastronomic events of 2012, think tapas galore (croquettas, squid, gambas etc), Jamon Iberico, olives.

Accompanied by 5 fantastic wines from Central and Northern Spain.

Hosted by Senor David Geary and yours truly, a wonderfully informed and informal evening was had by all. To the accompaniment of excellent tapas, many interesting , indigenous Spanish wines were consumed in biblical quantities.

Lucky the Spanish don’t suffer hang-overs!

Watch this space for news of our next wine event.

The Venetian Masked ball for New Years Eve 2012 was absolutely fantastic. The evening was a resounding success with people donning incredible and somewhat sinister “masks”  throughout the evening. As usual the food was superb and the band were amazing! 10/10!
